Summer’s Bounty

Today we went on a field trip to Adams Farms to do some berry picking! We needed produce anyway so I thought it would be more fun to go to a farmer’s market than the grocery store. We piled in the van and drove 30 minutes away to Fayetteville, Georgia. We were met in the parking lot by an old, scruffy and somewhat curmudgeonly man who gave us buckets and directed us to the picking areas. We picked blackberries, raspberries and 3 pounds of strawberries. I was told I couldn’t pick blueberries because I had Jasper in a stroller and that would trample the blueberry bushes. That sounded reasonable, but we really did want to pick blueberries. After we picked all we could possibly want, we went inside the vegetable stand and had more summer veggies to select. We bought a bag of peaches, zucchini, yellow squash, red potatoes, 4 ears of white corn, cucumbers, tomatoes, green beans and butter beans. We got all of this plus the berries for $29!! That probably was cheaper than Kroger. I will still need to get a few veggies at the store this week that weren’t available, however, I feel we will eat pretty well this week off what I was able to buy at Adams. The kids were funny as they couldn’t wait to eat the berries. We came home and washed them immediately so they could sample. Now they have berry stained fingers and faces!
